Description
Grenn means “seed” in Haitian Creole & it’s the title of my 7th poetry collection.
Over the last year, I’ve learned a lot from the seed. I like to call these lessons the “Pedagogy of the Seed.” The seed has been a tool for me to learn to cope with the realities of late stage capitalism, relentless & gratuitous violence, and love in the age of apathy. The pedagogy of the seed has helped me to see connections I hadn’t considered on my own.
The seed is planted to create new life but it is not buried, it is not dead. The seed teaches us that darkness doesn’t mean inherent sorrow or hopelessness. Instead, in darkness, there is hope and possibility. I hope this journey empowers you to look to the Earth for guidance in times of chaos, loneliness and strife.
In the era of climate change, there is a lot of patronizing talk about “saving the Earth,” but I’ve learned the Earth doesn’t need saving, it’s humanity that needs to be saved; it’s human beings that to be reminded to learn from the Earth again. This book aims to give reverence to the Earth as a teacher, share reflections on learning from teachers in surprising places and to remember new & old ways to cope, heal and grow.
